If you haven’t heard, word is going around that CBS was planning on canceling Survivor after this newest season, Micronesia. Now we all know this isn’t the case since they already renewed for two more seasons, but thanks to China the show will continue. What doesn’t make sense to me is their reason for possibly canceling. They claim that Fiji’s pathetic twists and cast were the reason that Survivor could no longer continue. Now come on, one little season and they cry cancellation. We all know Survivor has hits and misses, and yes Fiji was a huge miss. But you don’t cancel a show that wins in its time slot every week and is usually in the Top 10 or at least the Top 20.
So what I’m thinking is this. Is CBS looking for a reason to cancel Survivor? I mean their reasoning just don’t make sense. China was a great season in my opinion, but ratings didn’t increase THAT much from Fiji, so what are they looking at for reason China saved it? I’m very glad they didn’t as I’ll have the chance to at least apply to one season, but hopefully they will continue well past season 20. I’d like to thank China for saving Survivor and hope Micronesia pushes it so far forward CBS never thinks of canceling it again!
This week brought major news in the world of Reality TV. With several news show about to begin, information is slowly being leaked and casts are being revealed. It was such a huge week in reality tv that I’m going to do one big review about so let’s begin:
It’s Time to Renew: Two major reality shows got renewed for more seasons this week. Survivor will be airing at least two more seasons after Micronesia and yes Jeff is returning. This is great news for all those who have been waiting to turn 21 to apply and gives me high hopes it will continue far into it’s 20s for seasons. A more shocking renewal was the Celebrity Apprentice. It seems like NBC likes the new celebrity format so it is returning for at least one more season and it will air next January. Mark Burnett says that the celebrities on the show have raised over a million dollars so far, so that could be one of the reasons NBC chose to pick it back up.
No News is BAD News: Two new seasons of shows that generally air in the summer will be put on for a special Winter edition this year and those are Big Brother 9 and Paradise Hotel 2. Both have kept their format and cast very secret only leaving commercials to tease about would COULD happen. All the Big Brother fanatics watched Julie Chen walk onto the Late Show stage Tuesday night but nothing came of it. Julie revealed NOTHING about the seasons but rather gave us a history lesson of the shows past. Paradise Hotel has been less secretive as it’s initial cast has been released only in pictures. It’s also being reported that one of the players committed suicide after the show completed but his scenes will still air.
Survivor Adds More Twists and two more Rombers: Jeff Probst in his pre-show interviews revealed a little to much about the season it seems. Micronesia will once again feature an exile island but this time two people will go to it each round. One player from each tribe will visit the desolate island together and will have to fight in order to find the single hidden idol in the game. If that weren’t news enough, Jeff let it slip that not one but TWO relationships formed over the course of the 39 days. Is it just me or were they trying to top Romber and the preview All Star season? It will be interesting to see WHO forms these bonds. My guess is its on the fans tribe but you never know.
It seems the people at CBS are taking a new approach to getting viewers for Survivor this season. A dramatic yet humorous “movie trailer” has been created for Survivor Micronesia. In the short clip, airing over YouTube and other websites, meshes acted sequences with clips from the new season as well as interviews from several cast members. It’s an interesting turn as really Survivor hasn’t had this “feel” before. They are putting what seems like more effort into promoting the show online which to me may help boost the ratings. The feel of the trailer as well gives the show a new feel and might appeal to others who may find just short clips in commercials not worth their time to watch. The new commercial/trailer for Survivor Micronesia Fans vs Favorites is posted below. Give it a watch and let us know what you think!
