One Singer Flips The Crowd On America’s Got Talent
July 16, 2008 America's Got Talent, NBC No CommentsAmerica’s Got Talent is STILL on their “nation wide quest for talent” and begins, once again, in Atlanta. Does anyone else feel the audition process is getting a little drawn out now? Oh well. First up was a singer who feels “passionate” about her singing “gift”. That usually means she’s going to suck and of course I was right. After forcing everyone to stand up she began to “sing”, rather scream, and basically walked around waving her hands the entire time. Not sure why the judges didn’t buzz her right away but what the hell we need something fun to laugh out right away.
Next up was someone who applied last year and ended up moving onto the second round. He’s a magician who does comedy as well. This time around he promises to perform a bed of nails act. He lays on the nails and lets his “helper” stand on top of him. As she tap dances on top of him the nails light up while Piers Xs. David didn’t think the nails were sharp and asked if he could stand on him. The guy agrees so David jumps on top and of course the guy survives. If they didn’t pass him through he should have sued them for attempt of murder!
After that crazy act it was time for an even crazier one as a cross dresser stepped up doing a Tina Turner impersonator. (Actually think it was a guy I honestly couldn’t tell). He didn’t really sing like her but lipsynched and danced. Do I see another Boy Shakira in the making? The audience seemed to like him while Sharon did as well. After Piers said no Sharon said a very stern yes. It was then up to David who gave a yes after the audience begged him to. A few other acts were also passed through including a samba group, a speed juggler, a singer. The last act in Atlanta was the “Zooperstars” who were a bunch of people in inflatable costumes who danced around. The audience loved the hilarious act and it seemed to be the best act of the day. The judges easily passed them through simply because the audience went crazy.
With the Atlanta auditions now over it was time to turn to Texas. Up first were Dallas Desperado dancers who are “like” sisters. They do almost everything in sync from walking to talking. Considering they are a professional sport dance team it’s obvious they would be good. The judges and audience thought they were great and the girls easily moved onto the Vegas round.
At only 18 years old the next audition was the first time his talent was ever shown to the public. What he did was act like a robot, moving at a strange pace to look as if he actually was a robot. It was rather strange but timed well to certain sound effects that made it humorous then even some comics. Sharon loved that he mixed the track himself while Piers was surprised by his unusual talent.
The strange acts continued as “barn yard animal noises” are for some reason seen as a talent. For once David was the first to give an X and Piers quickly followed. Sharon held out for a few more “noises” which included a rot wilier and hog having a “disagreement”. With that disappointing act it’s not surprising he didn’t go through along with the next few acts they showed. Those included an extremely strange singing lady, a self titled freak show, an accordion duo another strange dancer guy and a horrible comic. Sure seems like Texas got a few crazies doesn’t it?
Last for the night was a man who at once had his vocal cords severed and could no longer talk. After learning through talk he wanted a second chance at singing and wanted to use the show to try just that. Although he did sound pretty good the audience hated it and wanted the judges to buzz him. I’m not sure what was going on, maybe the song choice? I’m not sure how he did it but he sang through their banter and luckily the judges didn’t agree with them. After hitting a great note the crowd completely changed their turn and started to clap and cheer. It was amazing to see the audience flip like that. The judges saw the change and knew his potential, happily sending him through.
After that great ending America’s Got Talent is proving to be even better then American Idol at times. I’m not sure why they don’t air it against the show because I feel it would surely give it a run for its money
