Are The Olympics The “Most Legendary” Reality Show?

NBC, Olympics, Reality News No Comments

Recently MSNBC.com ran a story calling the Olympic summer games the “most legendary” reality show. For one I never heard anyone call the Olympics a “reality show” and secondly I don’t agree with it. Of course NBC is broadcasting non-stop coverage of the Olympics and of course it is real and unscripted, but is that all that is needed to classify a show, or event, as reality television? It just doesn’t make much sense to me as sporting events are never seen as reality TV yet the Olympics are? Below I’ll give my reason for not understanding MSNBC.com’s classification. Do you agree or disagree? Leave a comment and let us know!

One of the main reasons the author of the MSNBC article claims the Olympics are reality TV is because they are unscripted. I can see why that comparison was made but like I said, sporting events are unscripted and they are no where close to being reality TV. Of course the Olympics do give more background information on those performing, but so do other events such as the X-Games and other more general contest and events. Hell even shows such as the news can be unscripted at times but I wouldn’t consider that a “reality show”. What I’m trying to get at is that the Olympics may be unscripted but they lack editing. Reality shows are known for editing events and conversations into a storyline while the Olympics generally show what is happening either live or uncut. It’s just hard for me to see how the two can be compared based on editing, unscripted yes, editing: no.

I’ve written this little post to see what others would say. Do you think the Olympics is a reality show? Leave a comment below and discuss!

The House Bands Together On The Latest Big Brother 10

Big Brother 10, CBS No Comments

Big Brother 10 is really impressing this season as fights linger from the first night turn into one hell of a show. Following last episode we finally got to see the aftermath of Renny and Jessie being placed on the block. The two immediately began to argue as Renny blamed Jessie and Jessie blamed Renny. While Jessie went up to talk to Jerry, who gave a very strange reason for the nominations, Renny did her dirty work in the public kitchen. She went off and let everyone know just how immature Jessie was being. When Jessie returned to the kitchen the two began right where they left off. Renny called Jessie a baby and immature while Jessie countered by calling Renny old.

Later that night Jerry threw a party and opened up a wine bottle he got for being the HoH. Renny took the opportunity to address everyone about the situation and let everyone know that Jessie was a liar. She did however apologize, once again, and Jessie fought back saying its been a day and a half since the incident. Big Brother then did its famous flashback, showing Renny telling Jessie how sorry she was the morning after the “night time cackle” occurred. She didn’t like that too well, remembering that she did say her apology earlier. Renny then left the room but not before telling everyone how much Jessie lies and that he has a “split tongue”.

Moving on from the Renny/Jessie fight we turn to the all mighty Brian who continues to think he’s dominating the house. He does seem to be pulling a lot of strings early on by basically controlling Angie and Steven’s votes. He tried to get Memphis as well but that didn’t turn out so good since Memphis wouldn’t give a sure bet that he would vote the way Brian wanted. Brian took this as a threat and went to his “bros” Ollie and Dan to fill them in. I’m not too sure why they aligned but apparently Dan and Ollie are Brian followers as well as they agreed that Memphis should go up in case the veto was used. Little did Brian know he had a defector and oh what drama it would cause.

Before the veto challenge could begin we finally saw the beginning of Ollie and April’s “friendship” which is well more like a showmance by now. They flirted a bit and said how they have a physical attraction. It should be interesting to watch and has been so far on the feeds but as we will see in a bit it has already had a few bumps in the road.

I must say that the Power of Veto challenge was very entertaining and a step up from any challenge they had last season. After players were picked the six were: Jerry, Renny, Jessie, April, Memphis and Michelle. What they had to do was first climb through honey, which was SO much more stickier then you would think, and jump into a huge bed full of pillows. After ripping the pillows open, and having the stuffing stick to the honey on their skin, they had to search for a bear. The first person to climb back through the honey and find five bears would win the Power of Veto.

The challenge started off rather slow and everyone took at least five minutes to get through the honey in the first try. It looks like the challenge took forever but luckily we didn’t have to suffer through that thanks to editing. Memphis was out to an early lead and Michelle wasn’t far behind him. Renny and Jerry only got one or two bears the whole time, along with April so the competition was really down to three people. Jessie seemed to come from behind and find a ton of bears very quickly as in the end it was between Michelle and him for the final bear. Jessie was the lucky one though as he found his seconds before Michelle and took home the first Power of Veto of the season, saving himself from eviction.

Directly following the veto Brian put his plan in motion to get Memphis out. He went straight to Jerry and simply said “Memphis has to go up”. Jerry obliged and said that is what he would do. What happened next was amazing and could possibly be one of the best moments in Big Brother history. With April, Libra and Keesha in the room Ollie came in and let them know that they were safe. Although April hear this she still thought she would go up and Ollie called Brian in to fill them in. He told them that Memphis was going home and they “he” would keep them safe. After Brian left Libra told the girls that Brian was pulling a Dr. Will move. She was stunned how he demanded what was going to happen and how they were going to do his dirty work. Libra is really showing herself to be a BB3 Danielle like competitor and I’m really liking it!

When Libra realized what was going on she told April that Ollie had to be in an alliance with Brian and Dan. April couldn’t believe it since her and Ollie were so tight so she had to confront him. Ollie was then called into the bathroom where Libra and April were and Libra asked him if he was aligned with Brian and Dan. He hesitated and basically told them everything. At this point Ollie realized he had to jump ship and align with the girls, and that he did. The three then set out to get Brian nominated by rounding up everyone they could and corning Jerry into putting Brian up as the replacement. They used April to lure Jerry into the HoH bedroom where eight others pounced on him. They all told him that Brian was playing everyone and had to go up. Jerry didn’t seem to happy with the situation but after being told he would be safe next week seemed to at least think about it.

The Veto Ceremony was something to look forward too since Brian still thought that Memphis was going up. Jessie easily took himself off after hearing Renny blast him once again and it was up to Jerry. He let everyone know that he was indeed aligned with Brian and had to do what the house asked him too. Jerry then did the deed and, for once not following Brian’s command, put Brian up against Renny. I’m pretty sure I know who is going but I’m not going to spoil that here, that’s what the Feed Updates are for. Tomorrow night should be VERY interesting and hopefully we’ll get to see the now famous puppet show on the big screen! (By the way check out our YouTube account for a few clips from the show, including the new intro!)

An Unknown Kicked Out Of The Celebrity Circus

Celebrity Circus, NBC No Comments

Celebrity Circus returns with another death defying episode. They claim the most dangerous act ever performed on the show will be on tap for the latest run, but will it impress? Things start off right away with the reveal that Stacey, Christopher and Rachel (yay) are safe and not going home. It’s down to Wee Man, Antonio and Janet but Wee Man is somehow safe, confusing the hell out of me! He sucked last week and really deserved to go home.

Chris is first and after last weeks fire act, he realized that he has to do some acrobatics to get on the judges good side. His act for this week was the bungee, something hard for him to do with a broken arm. Since Stacey already did the bungee, of course the judges will base his performance off of their golden child. Although he looked somewhat uncomfortable on the bungee, Chris did a good job as he spun his way through the performance. This time he included a trapeze bar in the mix which did add an interesting touch but the judges were mixed. Of course they compared him to Stacey, the British guy did, but the other two loved him and that’s all the matters! Two 9s and a 6, which was great, but still the stupid British guy screwed him over!

Stacey is up next and I’m sure the judges will all love her. Her stunt is Blu’s downfall and that is the Spanish Web. In her practice package Stacey freaks out, a bit divaish? Blu did the same and she left, maybe the same will happen for Stacey. For once I’m impressed and feel she finally did a great performance. But for some reason the judges disagree? Um what’s going on. For some reason the judges have a false vision of Stacey and I’m not sure why. She spun well and it was very entertaining but of course the British guy loved her. Why am I not surprised? Two 7s and a 10 give Stacey the same score as Chris (and by the way how in the world is she 41!?!?!?)

Next up is the lackluster Week Man. I have a feeling he got through on his fame and fans calling in since he didn’t deserve to stay. The Flying Strap is his act and this time he has to act a bit as a story has been added for once. Although then hanging onto the straps Wee Man didn’t do too much. Of course he flipped a few times and flipped again, but that’s about it. I wasn’t impressed but the judges thought he did much better compared to last week. They liked the theatrical part of the show and that’s enough to give him a thumbs up. His score ends up being a 7 and two 8s, much better then the 4s he got last week!

Rachel is up next and she’s performing the most dangerous act of the show! I hope she does well since she’s afraid of heights and that’s the whole part of her performance. She’s doing the high wire that includes a trick that in the past killed someone, the pyramid. She’s walking, dancing and pyramiding on the the high wire and things were sure interesting. To make sure things stay safe, Rachel is was a safety wire and I don’t blame her. Although she’s safe, the others on the pyramid with her aren’t. They silence the audience and begin, tethered together are Rachel and two helpers. She’s balancing on a pole between the two in a very tense moment. Amazingly all three make it across safe. Although it wasn’t too thrilling it was exciting and risky! The judges thought she did a great job considering she was afraid of heights and gave her two 7s and an 8.

It was then time to reveal if Antonio or Janet would leave. Janet was the one selected to leave, probably because knows who the hell she is! She thanks the trainers and it was then up to Antonio to perform. His act is the Chinese pole, which is two poles next two each other that you can leap from and grab onto. Antonio’s act was pretty good once again but the judges seemed somewhat bored. They didn’t think he controlled himself well on the pole and lacked theatrics. Although those were mentioned they say Antonio was the only one who could have done the Chinese poles so it was a rather unbalanced judging for him. The votes were then made giving Antonia Sabato Jr a 7, 8 and 9.

With all the performances done only five remain and its a tie for the bottom as wee Man and Rachel share the bottom spot. Next week promises death defying acts and thrilling performances. All of them tonight were great so I’m sure it won’t disappoint!

The ‘Devil’ Is Crowned The Celebrity Apprentice

Celebrity Apprentice, NBC 1 Comment

Why is it that every British guy on a reality show always seeks to be the most evil person there? Simon Cowell, Gordon Ramsey and now Piers Morgan. I must say after not watching the Apprentice since season one, I was skeptical to watch this celebrity version since most celebrity shows fail. Thankfully it caught my attention as it was even more entertaining then I remembered it and was surely a great season.

The night began with both Trace and Piers still facing off at the charity auction. I loved how they added the laughter from the crowd over the pre-taped moments. It gave it a comedy type feel and there sure was a ton of it! The charity event went pretty smoothly but one thing kind of felt strange to me. It wasn’t really about the items they were bidding on, once again, but rather huge celebrities dishing out thousands of money for the ’cause’. Piers had three donations at $100,000 which gave him a sure win. Hell even one donation of $100,000 would have been enough.

When it came time to crown the winner, everyone wanted to see Trace win. Maybe it was the fact Piers is British on an American show or maybe because he was so evil on the show itself, but everyone there seemed to hate him. When it came down too it though, Piers did in fact take home the win. Although I hate saying it, he did deserve it after all the challenges he won and money he raised. In the end none of the celebrities stood a chance against him (no not even you Carol) and he probably would have won against anyone. Luckily there is a new season already being planned for next year and Trump told us that he’ll “be around for a long, long time” so I guess that means at least a few new season. Hopefully they can get an even better cast next time. Just bring back Omarosa again and I’ll be sure to tune in!
