Big Brother 10, CBS
No Comments
On the special edition of Big Brother 10 some of the best moments from the season are showcased. Although only a few new scenes were chosen it was a nice way to end the season with a recap of all the good, and sometimes bad, memories. The show started off with Jerry being evicted and both Dan and Memphis celebrating. They’ve been planning for several weeks now to get to this point and were ecstatic to actually be in the finals. At one point they both agreed they were there because they controlled their emotions and didn’t get into any fights. That may just be the case.
When it came time to showcase some of the houseguests both Jerry and Renny received the most airtime. They were the comedic relief of the season. Jerry’s senior antics were the talk of many conversations in the house and with the first of the new footage we saw Jerry attempting to do a rap. Ollie told him to not dance when rapping, but Jerry didn’t listen. They also showed his fights with Memphis and others and both Renegades were shocked at how well he actually did. With Renny you never knew what you were going to get. I’m so glad they finally showed her impressions on the show as they were great on the feeds. I’m surprised they didn’t show her doing Keesha though as she was dead on. Of course they just had to show Renny’s famous antic from night one of being stuck in her room. It set off one of the better feuds on the show between Jessie that lasted the entire time both were in the house.

NBC, Olympics, Reality News

Recently MSNBC.com ran a story calling the Olympic summer games the “most legendary” reality show. For one I never heard anyone call the Olympics a “reality show” and secondly I don’t agree with it. Of course NBC is broadcasting non-stop coverage of the Olympics and of course it is real and unscripted, but is that all that is needed to classify a show, or event, as reality television? It just doesn’t make much sense to me as sporting events are never seen as reality TV yet the Olympics are? Below I’ll give my reason for not understanding MSNBC.com’s classification. Do you agree or disagree? Leave a comment and let us know!
One of the main reasons the author of the MSNBC article claims the Olympics are reality TV is because they are unscripted. I can see why that comparison was made but like I said, sporting events are unscripted and they are no where close to being reality TV. Of course the Olympics do give more background information on those performing, but so do other events such as the X-Games and other more general contest and events. Hell even shows such as the news can be unscripted at times but I wouldn’t consider that a “reality show”. What I’m trying to get at is that the Olympics may be unscripted but they lack editing. Reality shows are known for editing events and conversations into a storyline while the Olympics generally show what is happening either live or uncut. It’s just hard for me to see how the two can be compared based on editing, unscripted yes, editing: no.
I’ve written this little post to see what others would say. Do you think the Olympics is a reality show? Leave a comment below and discuss!
