America’s Toughest Jobs Grabs The Bull By The Horn
September 27, 2008 9:36 am America's Toughest Jobs, NBCAfter three injuries and a family visits, the bulls take over the crew of America’s Toughest Jobs. Following Eric’s leave after a disastrous round in the oil rig, the remaining eight remained in Texas where they took on the fighting bulls. Nobody was excited to do the dangerous stunt as they would go head to head with rodeo fighting bulls. To start off their job the eight were pitted against a wheelbarrow with horns in it. It was supposed to simulate the actual bull they would be fighting but for some it was actually worse. Sandy and Steven took the bull right on, making good progress as usual. It was the normal bottom feeders that didn’t shine through and for one it could have cost them the game.
During their practice runs both Chris, Ben and Rie faltered. Chris rammed right into the wheelbarrow and felt just muscling the bull would keep him safe. Nobody really agreed with him so he felt the odd man out once again. Ben did something similar but simply stood still, letting the “bull” ram right into him. Rie was the one who took the hard hit as she couldn’t zig-zag enough away from the impending hit. She fell to her knees, pulling the one out of the socket and keeping her out of the practice run and ultimately giving her a huge disadvantage when it came to show time. Rie’s knee didn’t look that bad but her injury, and most likely fear of being in the ring with the bull, kept her from the practice round and almost kept her from performing at show time.
Before the actual drama out in the ring Chris and Sandy threw down in the dressing room. Chris was feeling like an outsider with all the young people still in the game and took it out on Sandy. They went at each other with Chris calling Sandy a man and Sandy calling Chris a women. It quickly ended once practice came and that’s where more drama went down. The girls did well, once again with Michaela show the guys how to do it the first go around. Although Sandy did well against the bull she did a little too well and ended up getting stomped, injuring her ankle. She got up and tried again but with her injured ankle Sandy hurt herself even more. This sent her to the ER for an X-ray and scared the rest of the crew. When it came to the rest of the crew the guys didn’t perform as well. Steven and Ben did ok but stayed too far back from the bull. Chris almost made the same mistake that Sandy did but luckily he was able to get away quick enough.
With Sandy at the hospital Rie decided to not try to face the bull during practice. She returned to the dressing room where the rest of the crew were waiting and decided to give it a shot during the actual performance night. After Sandy returned she filled everyone in that her ankle wasn’t broken but really sore. The doctor told her to stay off of it for at least a week but she didn’t have time with the performance that night. Luckily the boss felt she proved herself during the practice and kept her safe from the new bottom two. Before the real deal of facing the bull went down Josh let the remaining eight know their families were there to see they face the bull. All had a nice moment seeing their family for the first time in weeks but it all came down to their final face off with the bull.
Michaela was up first and started off well. She grabbed the bull by the horns and had a great little show. The bosses loved it along with Bryce’s performance. Steven was up next and although he did well the first two times he stayed his distance from the bull and the bosses weren’t impressed. When Ben went into the ring he had to impress the boss. He did so by grabbing the bulls horns and spinning it around several times. The bosses and crowd loved the show, giving Ben the “Best of the Week” award from the judges. With Rie’s and Sandy’s injuries everyone hoped no more would happen but Rommel proved that wrong. While in the ring the bull bucked his shoulder, popping it out of socket. Although he got injured the judges felt he did an ok job and that kept him from the bottom two. Chris then went up next and although he struggled the first few rounds he was able to get in there and actually “fight” the bull. The judges were impressed and that left Rie left to face the bull for the first time. She claimed the bull was a “dud” but it was the simple fact that she was scared of it. Because she didn’t engage the bull Rie was placed in the bottom two along with Steven.
To see who would be eliminated Steven and Rie played “Bull Hockey”. The name of the game was the first person to get the bull to run through the opposing person’s goal would win and stay in the game. Although the bull ran through Steven’s goal sideways, it didn’t count. Steven then ran in front of the bull, forcing it to chase him directly through Rie’s goal. That kept Steven in the game and sent the injured Rie home. She claimed it was her leg that forced her to leave but it seems it was more her fear of the bull then anything. Next week the crew takes on bridges, don’t know how tough that could be but we shall see.
