Katie, better known as Pod 3, made it to the Top 3 of Solitary 3.0, only 55 seconds away from being in the finals. We got the chance to ask Katie a few questions about her Solitary experience and she fills is in on what Val is really like and why she almost quit so early.

Congrats on making it to the top three. How did you get involved with Solitary 3.0 and were you a fan of the show before you took part?

Thank you!  I heard about the show from an acting/casting website that I’m on and frivolously submitted myself and got an audition.  I went into the audition without ever thinking I’d get cast, it was more just for the hell of it and I had nothing better to do that day..  I was just myself in the audition and wasn’t trying to impress anyone which probably made me stand out.  I told all my stupid jokes and laughed so hard at all of them I snorted and I guess the casting associates found that entertaining.  I had never heard of the show before.

Early on it seemed like you wanted to quit, or at least opt out of the treatments early. What kept you in the game and did you surprise yourself in how well you did?

I was looking for any and every excuse to quit from Solitary.  I felt terrible, was starving, had no sleep (I’m used to a minimum of 10 hours a night), and was pretty sick.  I went as far as I could with how poorly I was feeling and it turned out to get me through the first few treatments.  Once I kept surviving and outlasting the other pods, I learned how mentally and physically tough I was.  And I told myself to keep pushing.  These are only 10 days out of your entire life..  You can do it, just put yourself in a good place.  I was surprised how long I lasted and pushed myself through barriers–like tearing apart a dead goat.  I felt so bad for that guy!

RobRob Revals What Life Was Like as Solitary’s Pod 4

Soiltary 3.0 had a super fan this season and his name was RobRob. If you were a fan of Solitary you probably felt right there with him as he represented everyone who loves reality tv and finally got the chance of their dreams. We got the chance to ask RobRob a few questions about his life as Solitary 3.0’s Pod 4. He let’s us know how Val’s experience compared to his home built Pod and how his life has changed since the show.

Congrats on making the final two RobRob and congrats on getting on the show! It seems hard lately for fans of any reality show to get cast. What are your suggestions for those who want to apply for future seasons of Solitary or their favorite reality shows?

Thank you.  It was like a dream come true.  When anyone asks me about getting on the show, I like to direct them to the testimonial I wrote for the website which I got cast from www.realitywanted.com.  The direct link is http://www.realitywanted.com/newsitem/1616-a-note-from-realitywanted-member-rob-hekal-of-solitary-30.

Can you let us in on how you practiced for the show? You said many times that you practiced things like counting the minutes and writing backwards. Were these things you knew Val would throw at you are just things you did for fun?

To practice for the show, I built my own pod in my living room.  I decided to make it half the size of a real pod so the real one wouldn’t feel so confining.  I practiced most of the tests and treatments from the first two seasons.  But my main focus was on the 8 things that were similar between the first two seasons like beds of nails, eating, spinning, brain washing, time estimation, sleep deprivation etc… As you could see, my time estimation was horrible even after all of my practice.  It was shocking.  At first I tried to make excuses for it like Val counting or the eulogy, but we were all under the same conditions, so I just sucked and deserved to be hung from the ropes.  As for writing backwards, I have been doing that since I was a child.  I even taught myself to write left handed, and write backwards with both hands.  No one knows what Val is going to throw at them while in Solitary.  Most of the angst is caused because of this fact of never knowing what she is going to do to us next.

With Pod 8 exiting Solitary 3.0 its time to get the real story behind her stay. Pod 8, whose real name is Karrie McNeal, pushed the red button after suffering a face-to-glass treatment. Before she left Pod 8 revealed that Solitary helped her be calm with herself. She was one of the few players who seemed to have fun in her pod throughout the entire time yet almost quit towards the end. What was going through Karrie’s mind during her final treatment and what made her almost quit? You’ll have to read the interview to find out!

Were you a fan of Solitary before entering the game and how did you get involved in the casting process?

Yes, I must say that I was a fan of the show. I got involved in the casting process by constantly looking up casting for Solitary 3.0.. It took a lot of time and effort but I must say it paid off in the end.

The game started off much different then any other season, with two people starting in a pod. What were your thoughts on your initial pod mate and what did you think that meant for the rest of the game?

I was very shocked to pull my blindfold off only to see someone else there. My first impression of my initial podmate (#6) was a little intimidating. But as we got further into the test I noticed that he wasn’t that intimidating at all. I was real shocked to find out that he was the next person to go after watching the first episode.

With Pod 9 exiting Solitary 3.0 its time to get the real story behind his stay. Pod 9, whose real name is J Scott, pushed the red button after crawling through several penalty rounds. Before he left J talked to the cameras about how his life was changed due to Solitary, but what else does he have to say about his stay on the show? Below is our full interview and we thank J for taking the time to answer our questions!

Were you a fan of Solitary before entering the game and how did you get involved in the casting process?

I had never watched an episode actually.  It’s not news, gossip, cartoons, or violence…..  I was broke and looking for gigs on craigslist and I saw this….  The week before I was in the pooling audience for Deal or no Deal hoping to get picked for that too….Apparently mohawks work for Val and not for Howie.

The game started off much different then any other season, with two people starting in a pod. What were your thoughts on your initial pod mate and what did you think that meant for the rest of the game?

I was afraid we were in there together for the long run…..  I’m a total pig and it would have been just horrible for her.  Jenn is lucky she got away from me when she did… She played for Nina Hagen (I’m a fan) and is a hot surfer…..  It would have been the “j gets shot down for sex show”.    Do you smell a spin off?  I sure do….  I bet she’s down.  Or maybe we can put me in one of those “I love” shows on vh1… It’d be a trip to watch models compete for my ugly ass.

Players Revert To Babies On The Latest Solitary 3.0

Two pod members bit the dust last time on Solitary 3.0 and tonight another joined them by pushing the big red button. While Pod 5 bowed out last time due to a full tummy, the others still had to suffer through the sweet tooth task. Following the twizzlers, Pod 8 got to sit out while Pod 3 did the “badunka-dunk” to drink her, appreciated, milk penalty. Marshmallows were up next, followed by chocolate pretzels and gummy worms. After eating all her foods and milk, Pod 3 was sitting with 2,800 calories so far. Her last bit of milk set her over the edge, forcing her to push the red button. She was glad to stay and ended the task for everyone. They all screamed at the top of their lungs for not having to eat anymore BUT they had to eat more if they wanted to handicap someone. The person who ate the most would gain the reward and only Pod 4 even tried. He ended up eating around 30 malt balls, when he only had to eat one to win. At least he’ll be full for awhile I’m sure!

When the eating was over with it was time for vlogging. Each of the final five were given a video camera and allowed to record whatever they liked. Pod 9 went through each player and named them as a “clown”. Others simply talked to the camera, as if it was their family members. Val wanted to screw with them a bit and told each player that they were “losing their minds”, on the basis of their videos. Pod 3 took the bait and believed the consensus was that she should leave, so she was going to push the button. Of course Val didn’t let her do it, telling her she’s just really gullible for falling for the psycho lie. Not sure what the point of that was, since they could have gotten someone to push the button on the basis of what Val told them. Going against the whole point of the show, but at least it was entertaining.

EXCLUSIVE: Solitary 3.0’s ‘Pod 5′ Answers Our Questions

Posted by REALITY REHASH on February 11, 2009 under Interviews, Solitary 3.0
3 Comments to Read

We here at Reality Rehash have a chance to interview a few members of the Solitary 3.0 cast this season and our first interview is with the now exited Pod 5. Her real name is Maureen and as many know she was last seen trying her hardest to drink milk and eat cookies. It’s harder then you think but she tried! Maureen was a fan favorite and many are sad to see her go but she’s now in high spirits and we thank her very much for answering our questions!

pod5

How did you get involved with the show and were you a fan before going into Pod 5?

I saw a casting call posting on RealityWanted.com and applied. I am a fan of the show. I couldn’t wait for Val’s next treatment. I’d watch and think these people are insane for going through the treatments. Next thing I know, here I am, one of those very insane people, competing on the show!

What were your thoughts when taking off your blindfold and seeing someone else with you in the pod? Did you think you would be playing as a pair?

I was very confused when I saw someone else in the pod. After all, the show is called Solitary. My mind started to race with questions and concerns. Will we have to be playing as a pair? Will we compete against each other? He looks stronger than me physically. Oh, boy. I hope during the first round, I don’t have to compete against him. Man, it’s going to get crowded in this room.

You went into your pod with a strategy to quit when you believed someone had dropped out to save energy for the future. How well do you believe this strategy worked for you? Did you think of changing it at all?

I love my strategy to quit just before I believe someone had pushed the red button. I needed to conserve my energy, thinking I would GO ALL THE WAY to the end. I didn’t want to burn out. We don’t get much sleep. I’m someone who functions well on eight hours and Val wasn’t going to let that happen.

The strategy was carefully executed with the exception of the eating challenge. If I had to redo that challenge over by using the “saving my energy” approach, I would not have eaten the junk food. I didn’t have a chance to overstuff and eat the most in any given round. I knew that. I should’ve just waited to drink the milk during the penalty rounds, making more room for my tummy. Perhaps, I could have lasted a few more rounds. Maybe another contestant would’ve puked before me.

What is it really like in the pod? We see that many of the contestants go a bit insane from the boredom and the lack of time and the outside world, how did you take it?

I love being in the pod. My life is so busy from working, to auditioning, charity work, exercising, hanging out with friends, to writing a memoir. Sometimes, I do all of that in just one day. Seriously! So when I had lots of downtime, I was reminded about how important it is to embrace the moment and be able to hear myself think.

Which task was most easy for you and which one was the worst and why?

My favorite task was sleeping. I was so exhausted that when it was bedtime, I fell asleep before my head hit the pillow or the carpet. Trying not to fall asleep was the worse with Val saying wake up number 5.

As you get your instructions from “Val” does it start to grow on you that Val is real and not just a voice behind a mirror? The idea of just communicating with a computerized voice is very interesting, what does the idea of Val add to the game? Does it make you more insane or calm you down as you are able to talk to “something”?

I seriously love Val. I never saw her as a person, but she had human characteristics. She was everything to me in the pod: my friend, my counselor, my life coach, you name it. It sucked she didn’t give massages.

I like the fact that I couldn’t see Val as human because it reminded me that I truly was all alone in the pod. I couldn’t depend on someone to win the treatments for me, but me.

While in your pod you do not get to see any of your competition. Who did you feel was your biggest competition and who did you feel was the weakest during the game? Were you surprised to see what any of the players looked like/really were after the show wrapped?

I felt like my biggest competition was #2. He kept winning the challenges. So when he went home after the smelly treatment, it gave me a boost of confidence. I believed all along that I was going to win Solitary 3.0, but since he went home BEFORE me, that was truly a moment I felt like I could REALLY win this game.

My weakest competition I thought was #9. I thought there would be more endurance challenges, like sitting on a bowling ball, and I would without a doubt, last longer than him. Turns out, I end up going home before him because he just had better memory than me. It gave him immunity from participating in the food eating treatment. I had no idea milk would end my Solitary career.

I was surprised to find out #9 was funny. He appeared to be a bully, especially since he made sure I was handicapped in a treatment and gave me the gift of sitting on the bowling ball again. But after watching #9, you could tell, underneath it all was a BIG TEDDY BEAR.

Our last question has to be about the smelling task. Just how bad were those smells and ultimately the taste of the horseradish?

When I watched the show, I could literally relive the smell of each vial, especially liquid ass. It was stinky.

The shot of horseradish taste exactly like horseradish. It made my tummy burn. It wasn’t as bad as the shot of cow intestines, which I couldn’t finish.

Thanks again for taking thetime to answer our questions Maureen and best of luck in the future!
