13: Fear Is Real paces, you guessed it, 13 players into the Louisiana Bayou to compete in a SAW styled competition where only the bravest survives to claim the $66,666 prize. The show is based off of several horror movies and is meant to force the players to experience real fear. The first few girls we meet claim to be afraid of most everything and are following into stereotypes. Another one obviously casted for a reason was Cody, a real life ghost hunter/rocker dude with mohwak and all. The scare tactics began early as the 13 were forced to walk the remainder of the way after their bus was stopped due to a “tree in the road”. At the end of the road their home for the duration of the game is in a broken down cabin, home to many horror flicks. Cody felt right at home while some wanted to clean the blood stains off the wall. Not sure but it seems some of them weren’t sure what they were getting into and weren’t ready to experience the fear produced by a simple house.

Lauren, the model, was excited to be in her own “horror movie” and most thought it was a movie when she applied, or was casted. Then we have Show who wants to be a rapper. Obviously they casted people who want to move out to Hollywood, at least they aren’t hiding it. While getting ready for bed something rant into the wall. As the cast walked outside there was a hatched with a note attached to it saying “answer the phone”. As the phone began to ring they realized it was under the floor. “The Mastermind” told them they were about to start playing a game, SAW much? Seems like its a real life SAW movie which could be fun, sadly nobody from the movie is actually attached to the show though. His first test was to perform a group ritual to test their fears. Someone had to stay behind on their own, and Cody decided to stay. They then had to pair up and walk down the road. Leah was freaking out since she doesn’t like dark or monsters but she still had to play. Some of the players then went down the road while the other half stayed at the cabin. Another girl, Laura, was freaking out but she had to sit in the cabin… just think how she’d freak if she was walking in the darkness.

Following another freak out the phone rang again. The group who started at the cabin then had their mission to walk to the road while Cody stayed by himself at the cabin. The first group who set out quickly found their fate as they were bound to chairs and blindfolded, along with being gagged. Leah was freaking out, big time, and their partners were about to find out the craziness. They came upon a cassette saying play me and were told to find their partners. The team who was last back to the cabin would face a “terrible fate”, probably elimination. Since Leah was freaking out Rodney was able to easily hear her screams. Everyone was screaming each others names as faint screams from the bound could be heard. It’s obvious they weren’t having fun and it proved to be one of the freakiest reality shows so far. Ted was first to meet his partners, Erica, and they realized what was going on. Melyssa/Ryan followed by Laura/Adam and Rodney/Leah. The girl just couldn’t catch a break as her hair got caught in a tree as Rodney dragged her along.

In the end two teams raced to get back to the chair first. Steffinnie/Nasser quickly beat the all girl team of Lauren/Kelly, putting up for execution as they were last back and the team who “failed the ritual”. Back at the cabin everyone was sleeping under mosquito nets….. is this Survivor? Guess so considering the electricity blacked out, only difference is the people lurking the woods, ready to freak Leah out as she went tot he bathroom. She called for the two blondes to come to her rescue, who saved Leah as she screamed for her mommy. Glad that the sun was out everyone was excited to be there as they played around their campsite. While walking in the woods Nasser came upon a cake with a cassette laying on top. He pushed play and of course “The Mastermind” voice played, calling everyone together and told them the “Death Box” was in the cage, giving someone the chance to “kill off” three players. Only catch was, they couldn’t be caught as the killer or they too would go to the Execution Ceremony. Some didn’t want the Death Box to be played as it pitted everyone against each other. Steffinnie was the first to try for the death box and actually was able to remove it from the cage. Nobody saw her do it but she played very strangely… she threw the box into the grass. Possibly removing the box from the cage but also giving her the chance to retain it and make a power play.

As the group was talking they had no clue that Steffinnie took the box but Leah quickly realized it was missing. Everyone started to freak out and pegged Ted, Erica or Steffinnie as having the box. It’s kind of funny that a simple box put so much pressure on everyone, so much that Steffinnie actually found the box and put it back into the cage. Come on…. play the thing. It’s part of the game and its kind of upsetting to see someone find it and put it back so soon thanks to reassure from others. When they realized that the box was back everyone was shocked once again. I agree with them that it was stupid to put it back but hey, Steffinnie did it and probably will be kicking herself watching the show. As darkness fell the phone rang again and it was time for the execution ceremony. Lauren and Kelly, the two up for execution, were the only two to go down and one of them wouldn’t be returning. One of them would be “killed off” that night and sadly they probably shouldn’t have been since they seemed to be enjoying the game. Their task was to be buried alive, guess the shows pulling out the big stunts on the first night. I like. The first girl to escape the coffin and climb out would remain in the game while the other would be killed off. Both girls started off strong as you heard the wood bending from the pressure of the ground. I know I’d be freaking out in there and for this as the first challenge I wonder how much worse it can get. Kelly ended up climbing out first by kicking out the bottom of the box, killing off Lauren. Leah was hit hard by the killing since well, she protected her. Without Lauren around will Leah be able to survive? Guess we’ll have to tune in next week to find out. The next morning a few walked out to the Death Box cage and realized it was gone again. They didn’t show who took it but wow was that a crazy show. Good crazy, not bad crazy but I surely didn’t expect it to be anywhere near as good as it is! I approve, that may mean nothing to some people but it’s one of the better shows in awhile. And its on the CW! Now that’s a shocker.
