Will Survivor Give Africa a Second Chance?

4:49 pm CBS, Rumors, Survivor

Recent rumors are pointing at Africa as being the newest location for Survivor 17. In season three of the show CBS took the contestants deep into the African wilderness where they lives off of the…. desert. The show didn’t do as well as normal as the landscape changed completely and the players were forced to live in a pre-made circle of bushes to keep them safe from the animal life. Although the players played hard and the wild lions and elephants scared some of them to death, it didn’t reflect in the ratings. When I first saw Survivor may be going back to Africa I was worried but after a little research the location they are rumored to have chosen could prove to be worth a return trip to Africa.

Located on Western Africa, Gabon may just be the newest location added to the Survivor family. Unlike Kenya, the previous survivor location, Gabon borders the Atlantic Ocean and therefore can offer beach scenes. Although it has a more ‘tropical’ feel, Gabon also offers the chance to view wildlife as several native African animals also inhabit this area. In a sense it could be on the best location Survivor has ever seen as it offers the beach scenes we all know and love will offering the great wilderness aspect that the first African season brought. Like I said the location of Gabon, Africa is rumored to be the newest location, but if it can become the great combination like I said it could go down as one of the best locations we’ve ever seen and hopefully push Survivor well into and past season 20.

So what do you think? Woul Gabon make a good location or should Survivor just dump Africa all together? Leave a comment and let us know!

I think Survivor Gabon is gonna rock!

    Don’t underestimate Africa!

I called Gabon home for nearly six years–from Jan. ‘94 - Aug. ‘99–and can confirm this place has far more to offer than one may think. Personally, I’m just surprised the local gov’t would allow the show to be filmed in their country. Perhaps the president of ~40 yrs (Omar Bongo) is ’softening’ in his old age. It would be great for them and would probably also give me cause to watch a show that has otherwise never gained my interest…

I actually live in Gabon right now (have been here for three years) and just LOVE the mixture of jungle and beach we have here. There are certainly a number of animals indigenous to the continent (mainly elephant, hippo and gorilla), but as we are on the west coast of the continent there are none of the large cats you see in southern and eastern Africa.

I say yes to Survivor Gabon! Anyone need a bilingual interpreter?

    Sarah,
Believe it or not, there are actually tons of big cats on Africa’s west coast; they’re just aren’t any in the jungle-laden areas of Gabon, EG & the Congos. Check out Cameroon, if you ever get the chance…they (used to) have plenty of lions there…
