Fang Rebounds As Kota Sent To Tribal On Survivor Gabon
October 2, 2008 6:38 pm CBS, Survivor GabonSurvivor Gabon got even more interesting as the tribe who nobody thought could gain a win actually did, sending the dominate Kota to Tribal council. Following Fang’s most recent tribal council where crazy old bat Gillian was voted off, the tribe was more fractured then ever before. Although everyone knew they’d have a new day in the morning to recoup, Randy was a bit upset that he got put on the “stupid” tribe.
Randy’s opinion didn’t change in the morning as he realized they were done half their rice in only seven days. As Randy asked the tribe to cut it down to two meals a day everyone agreed…. except for GC. He felt he didn’t have anything to do with it since they wasted a pot of rice in the first few days. Since GC once again felt someone was targetting him for a fight, Randy brought it to him as the two quarreled. It then became obvious who was the “cancer” in the group, according to Randy at least.
Over at Kota things were still happy go lucky and the tribe was splitting into sub groups. In the main alliance is the fourth of Marcus, Charlie, Jacquie and Corinne. Two sub alliances were then Sugar/Ace and Kelly/Paloma with Bob being on the outside but still in on everyone else. Last week Paloma started the “I hate Ace” rant but nothing really manifested from it. This week she continued her hatred for Ace and this time pulling in Kelly.
At their first Reward Challenge the two tribes faced off in their first physical challenge. With one person clung to a poll, to other people from the opposite tribe then had to try and rip them from the poll and cross a line. The first tribe to gain two points would win the reward, gaining some comfort items and sending one from the opposing tribe to Exile Island. Up first were three guys for each team with Dan and Ace on the poll for their respective tribes. For Kota both Marcus and Charlie easily got Dan from the pole while Matty and GC had trouble yanking the yoga master Ace from his station. Of course Matty was somewhat alone considering GC gave up half way though….. again.
With Kota dominating in the early position it seemed as if they would continue to win. But Fang dug deep as Crystal and Randy were able to, rather easily, pull Paloma from the pole. Although Sugar would have been better on the pole, Ace made the choice for Paloma to be the one there. She didn’t take to his power position lightly and took it as a strategical move to keep Sugar safe from seeming weak. With the two tribes tied Fang actually had the chance to win. With Ace and Dan once again on the pole the pullers were switched up. For Kota Marcus and Bob returned to pull while Fang put Matty and Crystal into the mix. Some were shocked that Crystal was in but since GC quit last time she was a better choice and a good choice. With Crystal joining Matty this time around, Fang was able to pull Ace across the line and give them a win! It was great to see them win a challenge, even if its a reward. With their win Fang chose Sugar to head to Exile Island, knowing the choice she would have to make. Little did they know Sugar is smarter then she looks.
Back at camp Fang celebrated their first win. They were overly happy and they finally felt like a team. Knowing they could actually work together made them know they could actually win the next immunity challenge as they hoped for a roll to occur. Over at Kota things weren’t any different as they felt their loss wasn’t a loss at all. Ace continued to say how they kept their stronger girls to sit out of the challenge, keeping Paloma in. He continued to say how weak Paloma was and she took notice. Paloma continued her Ace rant while Ace continued his “Paloma has to go” rant. Everyone seemed to jump on the Ace bandwagon as they felt Paloma was a waste. Although she didn’t give up he made everyone believe she did, giving Paloma her “contract with death”.
In Exile Island Sugar quickly chose to take the hidden immunity clue over the luxury. With the first clue Sugar headed to the jungle and had some not so fun moments with red ants. As she emerged from the jungle she believed she was lost but she just so happened to stumbled upon the sandy lot that Dan had trouble finding last week. Here she uncovered another clue sending her to a tree. Here she climbed the tree for the next clue which took her to another and another. During her mission for the hidden idol, Sugar let us know that her father passed away only a few months prior and that’s her reason for being on Survivor. She wanted to grow up a bit and hopefully deal with her father’s death. As Sugar broke down she continued on her journey for the idol and in the end she once again stumbled upon the correct tree, giving Sugar the first hidden immunity idol for the season. It surely isn’t an expected win for her and it should be something to look out for in the future. How will Sugar’s idol play out? Things are about to get very interesting in Africa!
Before the next immunity idol we returned to the Kota tribe where Ace and Bob discussed who should go if they do lose. Ace brought up Paloma to go, obviously, while Bob mentioned that Sugar was at the bottom as well. Ace didn’t agree but now that Corinne finally pulled Bob into the group of five Ace’s voice didn’t matter. With Bob now being told he’s in the group of five voting Corinne knew she held the power. Although she only wants to use Bob I have a feeling he thinks he’s in the alliance deeply. With Bob on Ace’s trail of keeping Sugar in he could have some influence on the group, playing out a bit a little later.
With Sugar back into the mix it was time for the immunity challenge. The challenge was basically giant slip and slide with seven members of the tribe sliding into a lagoon, grabbing a puzzle piece and returning to the top. Once all the puzzle pieces were returned the remaining player would assemble the puzzle. The two puzzle makers were Kenny for Fang and Bob for Kota. Fang took an early lead with Crystal’s fast feet in the water but Kota once again dominated the physical part of the challenge, leaving it to the puzzle makers to win the immunity. As both had trouble early on it was any one’s game but with Kenny getting the puzzle correct on his second tribe Fang was able to continue their winning roll. Winning their first immunity was another great victory for Fang and hopefully it continues in the future!
Since they lost, again, Kota was on their way to their first tribal council. Sugar played it off in public that she had no chance of finding it but told Ace in private. He immediatly said this is great for “us” meaning her hidden idol was now also his. She didn’t seem to care and laughed that “they” now have the power in the game. Uh no…. Ace has the power and she’s just giving it to him! Knowing her name was in the mix Paloma tried to switch things up by talking to Corinne. Paloma told Corinne that Ace was a sneaky player and had alliances with everyone. She didn’t seem convincing but Corinne atleast acted like she fell for it. As she talked to Charlie Corinne mentioned how Ace had to go before they merged. With the preview for next week that may be coming sooner then they expect but now I’m just getting ahead of things!
At their first Tribal Council Kota learned that Ace may just be more arrogant then they thought before. With Ace and Paloma going back and worth with their little tiff it seemed as if both had equal chance to leave. But when all the votes were in only Kelly voted with Paloma to send Ace him, making Paloma the first member of Kota to leave the game and the third woman. Next week it seems things get a little shifty as the tribe swap may just occur a few rounds early. How will the ranking play out? We’ll surely have to watch and find out when Survivor returns next Thursday.
