As we all know the airwaves are packed with Reality TV right now and about to get three more hours of reality with the start of Big Brother. The writers strike, which seems to at least be temporarily over, has caused this sudden boom of reality tv and could be beneficial or push reality into oblivion even further. With so much reality tv on right now people may get tired of it if they haven’t already. I LOVE reality tv and have at least 4 shows that I’m watching and that’s well over the norm. The problem with so much being on right now is people have to pick and choose what they watch since some shows air at the same time. The ratings don’t seem to be benefiting from the overload either and who knows what that will do. Both American Idol and Survivor are taking slight hits in their ratings. It could be people didn’t realize they were on or maybe they just grown tired of the reality tv that was on before them. Who knows what the boom will do to the genre. Hopefully it helps and hopefully reality tv will never die!

As we all know Big Brother is starting up in about two weeks for its first ever winter edition. One thing you may not have realized is that it’s new Sunday/Tuesday/Wednesday format puts two out of the three episodes competing directly with American Idol. American Idol has claimed several casualties in it’s seven years of being on the air, Jericho almost being one of them. The ratings that AI pulls away from other shows has crippled networks during this time and that’s why it often has no competition.
Until this winter that is with the special return of Big Brother. Now my worry is that BB will not fair well against the ratings juggernaut of American Idol. I know Big Brother has its fans, and well I’m one of them, but what will happen to those people who MUST see both BB and AI? They will have to choose obviously and for some it may not be too easy. So here is my question to you all. If you are deciding between Big Brother 9 and American Idol on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, which will you choose? I’m going for BB all the way, since I don’t watch AI after the auditions anyway but I’m just curious (and hoping) if Big Brother can fair against the all mighty powerhouse that is American Idol.
