Are The Olympics The “Most Legendary” Reality Show?

NBC, Olympics, Reality News No Comments

Recently MSNBC.com ran a story calling the Olympic summer games the “most legendary” reality show. For one I never heard anyone call the Olympics a “reality show” and secondly I don’t agree with it. Of course NBC is broadcasting non-stop coverage of the Olympics and of course it is real and unscripted, but is that all that is needed to classify a show, or event, as reality television? It just doesn’t make much sense to me as sporting events are never seen as reality TV yet the Olympics are? Below I’ll give my reason for not understanding MSNBC.com’s classification. Do you agree or disagree? Leave a comment and let us know!

One of the main reasons the author of the MSNBC article claims the Olympics are reality TV is because they are unscripted. I can see why that comparison was made but like I said, sporting events are unscripted and they are no where close to being reality TV. Of course the Olympics do give more background information on those performing, but so do other events such as the X-Games and other more general contest and events. Hell even shows such as the news can be unscripted at times but I wouldn’t consider that a “reality show”. What I’m trying to get at is that the Olympics may be unscripted but they lack editing. Reality shows are known for editing events and conversations into a storyline while the Olympics generally show what is happening either live or uncut. It’s just hard for me to see how the two can be compared based on editing, unscripted yes, editing: no.

I’ve written this little post to see what others would say. Do you think the Olympics is a reality show? Leave a comment below and discuss!

Antonio Sabato Jr Wins Celebrity Circus

Celebrity Circus, NBC 1 Comment

Celebrity Circus has had a rather interesting run as its had both good and bad weeds. I must say it was at least somewhat entertaining but could never be as good as Dancing With The Stars. Tonight the winner will be revealed between Stacey, Wee Man and Antonio who will take home a prize which we never really were told what. Although the reveal was rather simple all the celebrities were back to perform one last time.

Blu, who was out first, sang her famous song instead of doing the stunts which she really sucked out. Good for her I guess but apparently she didn’t care enough to even try. Janet left the show rather early and I almost forgot she was even on it. Tonight she performed with Vladimir on the swinging thing. It was pretty good as she jumped into the air only to be caught mid fall. I don’t remember if she did this during the show but if not she should have as she did it really well!

Christopher Knight then came onto the set and let everyone know how he enjoyed the experience. He wasn’t able to do any stunts or perform though as his arm is still healing after breaking twice in only a short few weeks. He was good while he was on and he went out in a very sad way. Last up of those who went home pre-finale was Rachel Hunter. She performed the first act she ever did and did it rather well. I must say I was a fan of Rachel throughout the show and although she may not have been the most athletic she was the most fun to watch!

For their final performances ever in the Circus the three finalists performed together. Wee Man did his balancing act with Vladimir. Stacey did her flying hula hoop act while Antonio did a flaying st rapes act. It was nice to see them all working together to perform and I must say they all did well. Following the act the three was narrowed down to two with Wee Man being the one to take the fall. This left either Stacey Dash or Antonio Sabato Jr as the winner but we had to wait to see. Wee Man let everyone know he was there to have fun and he sure did just that.

The entire night and competition culminated here as it was time to crown the winner of Celebrity Circus. Both Stacey and Antonio did a great job throughout the season but Stacey seemed to be a step above throughout her entire run. Although Stacey had the better performances throughout Antonio’s perfect 10 last week from the judges was hard to beat and he was crowned the winner of the Celebrity Circus. I’m not sure if there will be another one but if there is you’ll know I’ll be watching and covering it right here at Reality Rehash!

So what do you think of Antonio winning? Leave a comment and let us know!

One Singer Flips The Crowd On America’s Got Talent

America's Got Talent, NBC No Comments

America’s Got Talent is STILL on their “nation wide quest for talent” and begins, once again, in Atlanta. Does anyone else feel the audition process is getting a little drawn out now? Oh well. First up was a singer who feels “passionate” about her singing “gift”. That usually means she’s going to suck and of course I was right. After forcing everyone to stand up she began to “sing”, rather scream, and basically walked around waving her hands the entire time. Not sure why the judges didn’t buzz her right away but what the hell we need something fun to laugh out right away.

Next up was someone who applied last year and ended up moving onto the second round. He’s a magician who does comedy as well. This time around he promises to perform a bed of nails act. He lays on the nails and lets his “helper” stand on top of him. As she tap dances on top of him the nails light up while Piers Xs. David didn’t think the nails were sharp and asked if he could stand on him. The guy agrees so David jumps on top and of course the guy survives. If they didn’t pass him through he should have sued them for attempt of murder!

After that crazy act it was time for an even crazier one as a cross dresser stepped up doing a Tina Turner impersonator. (Actually  think it was a guy I honestly couldn’t tell). He didn’t really sing like her but lipsynched and danced. Do I see another Boy Shakira in the making? The audience seemed to like him while Sharon did as well. After Piers said no Sharon said a very stern yes. It was then up to David who gave a yes after the audience begged him to. A few other acts were also passed through including a samba group, a speed juggler, a singer. The last act in Atlanta was the “Zooperstars” who were a bunch of people in inflatable costumes who danced around. The audience loved the hilarious act and it seemed to be the best act of the day. The judges easily passed them through simply because the audience went crazy.

With the Atlanta auditions now over it was time to turn to Texas. Up first were Dallas Desperado dancers who are “like” sisters. They do almost everything in sync from walking to talking. Considering they are a professional sport dance team it’s obvious they would be good. The judges and audience thought they were great and the girls easily moved onto the Vegas round.

At only 18 years old the next audition was the first time his talent was ever shown to the public. What he did was act like a robot, moving at a strange pace to look as if he actually was a robot. It was rather strange but timed well to certain sound effects that made it humorous then even some comics. Sharon loved that he mixed the track himself while Piers was surprised by his unusual talent.

The strange acts continued as “barn yard animal noises” are for some reason seen as a talent. For once David was the first to give an X and Piers quickly followed. Sharon held out for a few more “noises” which included a rot wilier and hog having a “disagreement”. With that disappointing act it’s not surprising he didn’t go through along with the next few acts they showed. Those included an extremely strange singing lady, a self titled freak show, an accordion duo another strange dancer guy and a horrible comic. Sure seems like Texas got a few crazies doesn’t it?

Last for the night was a man who at once had his vocal cords severed and could no longer talk. After learning through talk he wanted a second chance at singing and wanted to use the show to try just that. Although he did sound pretty good the audience hated it and wanted the judges to buzz him. I’m not sure what was going on, maybe the song choice? I’m not sure how he did it but he sang through their banter and luckily the judges didn’t agree with them. After hitting a great note the crowd completely changed their turn and started to clap and cheer. It was amazing to see the audience flip like that. The judges saw the change and knew his potential, happily sending him through.

After that great ending America’s Got Talent is proving to be even better then American Idol at times. I’m not sure why they don’t air it against the show because I feel it would surely give it a run for its money

The Final Three Perform On Celebrity Circus

Celebrity Circus, NBC No Comments

After 12 weeks and 37 injuries its time for the three final performances on Celebrity Circus. Since last week four competed but it was time to drop down to three tonight and of course we would have to wait until the end to find out. Stacey obviously was the first to be told she’s through. We then learned that the judges would be choosing their performances for tonight so it should be interesting to see.

Before Stacey performed she let us know she’s upset about getting bad scores last week. The judges chose for her to do the bungees again and she wanted it to be better then before. Stacey’s act was once again a great one and she dazzled with her flips. This time she included the trapeze into her act which was said to make it harder then before. She nailed her final act her move to grab the trapeze with her feet the first time but the second not so much. Otherwise she had a good performance but her small fumble hurt her. The judges seemed to love her act even though she stumbled in the air. With three 8s Stacey didn’t have a great score but good enough for her at least!

Next we learned who the second person safe would be and that is Wee Man. Although he had a hard time the week before, last week saved him. The judges chose to give him the flying straps this week since he did well with the balancing act. Although he got a 7.7 last time on them he wanted to do better. With skateboard in to Wee Man took to the straps and flew around the circus ring with his fellow “bros”. They did a few handstands and other movements in the air which got mixed reviews from the judges. They loved his journey in the show and feel he could win simply because of that and his performance as well. Once his scores were in Week Man got three 8s, similar to Stacey making it a tough race between the two.

It was then time to reveal who would make the finals and who would go home. In the end Rachel was sent him (sadly) while Antonio made it into the finals. Rachel took some time to say her final words and she said she wouldn’t have changed a thing. She loved the acts she performed although they may have been silly. That crowns the final three and one of them will take home the win.

Antonio’s final act was the flying silk, his first act that he did. The first time he was told to connect with his partner better so that’s what he wanted to do this time. Although he didn’t do many moves in the beginning his act did turn out well and he may just have a chance to win. The judges felt he put all their suggestions together for the act and feel this was his best performance yet. The one British judge went kind of psycho over his performance, still kind of odd, but hey whatever. It was a good performance, like the other two, and all three have a good chance at winning. With three 10s Antonio goes into the finals with the best score of the night but he needs the votes as well to win.

So who will take home the win of Celebrity Circus? Wee Man, Stacey or Antonio? Leave a comment and let us know what you think!

Some More Talent Takes On America’s Best

America's Got Talent, NBC No Comments

America’s Got Talent returns with more acts trying to make it on the show. We return to Atlanta, Georgia for like the fifth time but hey who is counting. First up was a guy who looked like a security guard who had an odd talent. He sang opera….. just like a women. She, I mean he, got three Xs from the judges since they wanted him to sing like a man. Next up was a young girl who performed with her dad. The duo performed some sort of karate act with the girl beating up the dad. She flipped and performed other stunts, even after getting an X fro Piers mid way. Piers gave her a no while David gave her a yes. Sharon was the deciding vote and moved her on to Vegas.

Being in Atlanta we were bound to have a few country singers. Sarah was the first in the bunch and she was a bit plain but sang well. The three judges loved her and said she had talent, moving her onto Vegas to pursue her country career. A few others then moved on in a quick recap. A fire act, a pole dancer and some tribal dancers moved on to Vegas. A dance troupe who were all family were then up. They performed well together and the judges felt they had great energy. The judges loved them of course and they moved along to Vegas as well.

Auditions then move back to New York for even more excitement. The James Gang was the first to perform and they seemed promising. The group sang some jazz but more contemporary and danced around. It was rather entertaining and the judges agreed as all three moved them on with a yes to Vegas. A  young girl was up next who was adopted from China. She’s a contortionist and at 11 she’s pretty amazing at it! Everyone loved the girl and thank God she moved on to the next round of the show!

Two polka dancers were up next. It was a bit odd to see them bouncy around but hey whatever they do to keep them happy. The audience hated it and all three judges Xed them at the same time. None of the judges let them go through along with the next few acts. A strange singing guy, a ventriloquist and three strange singing ladies rounded off the crazies who obviously wouldn’t go on to Vegas.

The last act was the one they’ve been promoing all week with the judges and audience crying. Kyle is an R&B singer who had to sing to provide for him family. He teared up before singing but sounded great and shows he’s dedicated his life to singing. The crowd went crazy when he finished along with the judges. If everyone wasn’t crying they sure started when his mom rushed the stage. Jerry even shed a tear as they passed Kyle onto Vegas as we all expected.
